… An appraisal on the essence of WAITING ON THE LORD – FOR GOD
Somehow, I sometimes find myself forgetting names and scriptures, but one of the wisest sayings that has stuck with me for over a decade is this, “the true test of the strength of a man is in his ability to wait”. With a better understanding today, I can now add to that, “on the Lord – for God”.
If a believer has never faced a season where the Lord interrupts his arrangements – from one where he calls the shot or has control over things, to one where like Hebrew 11 saints, he doesn’t, he most likely still retains his former strength which is detrimental to his journeying unto God. Such new seasons is when we are helped to appreciate the leading of the Spirit (Rom. 8:14) like we never did; i.e. the profession of waiting on truths that fashioned Jesus to become the Christ and the Son of God (Matt. 16:16/26:63/Mk. 1:1/Jn. 6:69).
So as far as the east is from the west, so far is the reality of the above counsel from anyone who is yet to be led by the Spirit. He has the strength to do many lawful things that can’t build the soul (1Cor. 6:12/1Cor. 10:23) but unlike Jesus, he hasn’t been empowered to do nothing outside believing Jesus who is The Christ and also believe the Son of God (Jn. 5:30/Jn. 6:28-29/Jn. 20:31/1Jn. 5:1) – and as such, he is neither coming to God nor being made perfect (Heb. 6:1b/10:1c). His mentally-appealing plans and pursuits can’t be submitted for oversight of faithful men, and rather than the Lord having the power of veto – he does.
When a chapter opens up to us were we consistently begin to hear truths that pertains to Christ and God, season has actually changed over our lives and the Lord would no longer wink at our ignorance or our inability to respond to His revelations. Trading with our previous light (darkness) would now come with consequences and we are the mercy of cutting down activities and busyness without that encumbers and limits us from being led by the Spirit.
In previous seasons, we are always involved in activities around sacrifices (1Sam. 15:22); exploits we can do without a grasp of the knowledge of Christ which Paul introduced the churches to; conversations that we ignorantly equate with obeying Christ but which disobeys an unknown lifestyle present in Christ. We do so forgetting that the wages of disobedience (of not obeying faith) further separates us from God, and comes at a pay-day that mostly isn’t month end, and also plans to rob us of being crowned with glory and honor at the appointed times ahead.
While waiting, nothing seem to be happening – in the eyes of natural/carnal men – but that is actually when we can get heaven’s attention and resources like never before! While not waiting, things seem to be happening – in the eyes of natural/carnal men – but that is when our souls are mostly involved in conversations/walks of no eternal value, which leaves us more disadvantaged.
Waiting on the Lord – for God became unnatural and alien to mankind after the fall, so God had to resurrect it in the New Testament as a lifelong process whereby we would gain back lost strength to our souls (Lk. 21:19) by replaced (renewing) our strength with His, and the fullness of this should see us being caught up to God after an uninterrupted walk with the Lord (Heb. 11:5/Rev. 12:5)
Through waiting; kingdoms have been lost and gained (1Sam. 13), hidden things that escapes conferences and conventions have been exposed, new personalities in Christ have been born, men have repositioned their battles as the Lord’s, some are stilling obtaining a better resurrection while others are walking in ways and manners that would bring this age to an end.
The heart transactions while waiting on the Lord – for God was well summarized in 2Pet. 1:5-7 as one that promises to make the daily conversations of life and godliness (i.e. of Christ’s divine power – 2Pet. 1:3) increasingly tangible and ultimately end us up with an abundant entrance in God (i.e. fully save us with God’s His divine nature – 2Pet. 1:4/11).
Because God is the ultimate reward of seasons of qualitative waiting, this process comes at a cost to everything that is not born of God – everything that still has a life can be used by the enemy to limit us from inheriting God – just name it (houses, brethren, sisters, father, mother, wife, children, lands – Matt. 19:29)! While fellowshipping with truth – with various voltage of light kept in the custody of the Holy Spirit, the Lord’s Grace comes as our comfort for the loss of our former life (walk/conversations) and our destination (God’s Love) becomes clearer (2Cor. 13:14).
This is when the sufferings of Christ (i.e. the dealings of His Power from Faith to Faith – 1Pet. 1:11/Rom. 1:17/1Pet. 1:5) employs every available reproach (contradictions we must endure while disrespecting the standard set by the world) to separate us from the world (2Cor. 6:17-7:1), from the things of the world and from the wicked one (1Jn. 2:15/5:18) – unto God and the lamb (Rev. 14:1/Rev. 21:2-3/23)
- Heb. 10:36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done (i.e. stood perfect/complete by the Faith/love of Christ – Rom. 5:2/Eph. 1:4/Col. 4:12) the will of God, ye might receive the promise (eternal life – 1Jn. 2:25/Jn. 17:3).
Taking the path of least resistant always spares that nature (carnal/fleshy being) that limits us from inheriting Christ and God. Flesh (sin) understands and survives seasons prior to our learning the Faith that God commanded us to obey (Rom. 16:25-26), and only by obedience to this Faith would strength (knowledge of life in Christ) be restored back to our souls so it can it be said of us that we lived in Christ and thereby looked for God – even for the blessed hope and appearing of our savior and great God (Tit. 2:11-13).
